In depth testing of speakers (Magnavox)

Hello guys. Over the last year or more i have returned my 1st208 to stock condition. But after substituting a couple of the speakers I now realize one of the woofers has a "Click" sound just like a dirty record but i am playing a digital source. What i want to do is be able to put sound through them off a tape or something "sound generator" with drum hits or high sounds and mid and then bass. Is there a shop way to test a speaker? what equipment do i need? Hydro

Are you trying to figure out what the source of the click is, or just proving it is the speaker? Are the replacement speakers you used vintage, same year and type, that were in your 1ST208? To me it sounds like you have a bad voice coil in that one speaker. Manually move the cone back and forth by hand and see if you can hear your noise, or feel a catch like thing as you move it in and out. Push on the cone evenly so as to not throw it out of square. If you hear a rubbing sound or feel rubbing it is probably bad. Also try subbing that speaker for another. If the problem goes away you have a bad speaker.

Bill, I was going to suggest that the OP sub the speakers. Then I re-read his post and learned he already had done that. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm old and don't read as well as I should sometimes.

Is the speaker original to the set?... has it been stored in any damp areas?... My fisher woofers were in a basement , then in a hay loft in a barn , the VC were rubbing because the moisture got to the spyders and caused them to sag slightly causing a rub... but a clicking sound?... is there dirt or foreign material lodged in or near VC?... can't imagine what would cause that in a speaker ...

Hello all. Inadvertently i think i located the issue, My wife was gone so i could turn it up into the sound level i like and at about half throttle it started making the noise and i could locate it. Its coming from the 5 x 7 oval speaker on the left side and not the woofer. Like i said before i need a better way to test these speakers. I was thing some kind of a sound generator i could clip onto the speaker and run it through a bass, mid range and treble test. Not knowing what it is called is there something for this out there?
