It's time for the local Old Engine Show, a small event for steam traction engines and small gas engines that blossomed. Now they have their own small railroad with a steam locomotive.

In Michigan we also have Crossroads Village, a county park near Flint with its own steam railroad (I went two'38 Buick gatherings there).

There is an old thresher's club in Boonville Missouri my brother and I used to attend their shows. The star of the show was a Case 50 horsepower steam engine. They would use it to power a Case thresher, then use the straw from the threshing machine in the Case steam engine. Threshing was incredibly dangerous work by modern standards. Tending a steam engine was a hot job in the summer time, typically when you threshed wheat. Fire was a constant threat. The steam engine would throw sparks. There was a guy whose job it was to make sure the straw pile didn't catch fire until it could be used in the steam engine. When my grandpa was a "good big kid in long pants" his job was to tend a steam engine. He had a friend killed in a thresher fire. The straw pile got on fire, the threshing machine was made of wood.
I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison

For a second there I thought you were talking about the gaming platform... we have a yearly tractor and steam engine show in Midland , and the guys demonstrating them are crazy.. to get within inches of those spinning flywheels is insane...a dozen years ago a old timer was demonstrating the big steam engine at the Henry Ford museum In front of a class room full of kids on a field trip... the guy made the wrong move and was killed instantly in front of all those kids...I can't imagine the Trauma they witnessed ...

That would not be good, and the parents and potential lawsuits because of it and the loss to his family. It is sad when something like that happens, I guess Osha is a good thing.
