Stromberg-Carlson w/GS changer $50 Marshfield, MO

Post: # 21564Post macgolf »

Original sales receipt from Montgomery-Wards from 11/71 for $179.95, though tuner shows CD markings. Looks like a Glaser-Steers GS-400. If only it were close to Springfield IL instead of Springfield MO.

That set looks about 10 years older than the 1971 date on the receipt.

Good point, Ken. And wouldn't a 1971 stereo say "Solid State" on it somewhere? There is no place on the receipt that says the stereo is a 1971 model.

That receipt ain't correct.

On a lark I looked up 1962 SC with GS changer:

This looks like the same electronics, but different cabinet style.

It's possible MW took it in on trade and it was being sold as a used unit.

It says "62 Console Stereo" and "Delivered 1962 Springfield Missouri" on the receipt. Bill may be onto something..... ;) They got pretty good money if it was a used stereo.... ;)

I thought that 1962 was the store number for that MW store and maybe it was possible this unit was in their system for quite a few years. IIRC a few years ago someone was asking a large sum for a still NIB Magnavox console that was discovered. Wasn't old enough to know if they took in trades and no mention of it being new. A lot of questions and maybe this receipt doesn't belong with this unit. I do like when paperwork survives even if it raises more questions.
