They don't spend anything on appearances. They stomp their feet keeping time like they are putting out a grass fire. They sure can toot, you gotta give them that.

Chris, I played trombone in band. I hated it. I wanted to play piano. There were "political" reasons why that wasn't going to happen. I regret not standing my ground. I had the best childhood a man could imagine. My grandfather was and is the person who impacted who I am today. But he had a "tin ear" and thought musicians were lazy and "shiffless".

Band was the peak hour of the high school day. I loved making music. I was horrible at it because I hated to practice But making music with the band was glorious. My mother had tried to get me to take piano lessons and I successfully resisted, to my considerable later regret. Young and stupid....

I enjoyed band, and really enjoyed dance band. Even though I was on the wrong instrument, Mr. Harris made band fun and interesting. He could play any instrument he wanted to. He played guitar, fiddle and clarinet in dance band. I got out of PE class to practice with the dance band. I thought PE was the silliest class ever in school. I am not athletic, as you can imagine.

I'm pretty sure PE has been reformed. When I was a kid, it was all about the things I was bad at, which is to say, sports requiring fast reflexes and hand-eye coordination. Ball sports. There was nothing about stuff that I later found I could do--endurance activities. Now I think they have more options for life-long activities.

And back to the subject, those Tuba Skinny aggregations are fun. I love low brass. My Dad played string bass and sousaphone in HS. He and some buddies got a job offer to do a dance band on a cruise ship, the George M. Cox, during summer vacation in 1933. My grandfather said "No way." He understood that the Wrong Kinds of People would be out there whooping it up and it was no place for a young person. Dad was greatly disappointed. But on its first run, the Cox ran right up on the Rock of Ages in Lake Superior. There's a famous photo of the Cox with her bow up in the air. Dad's friends all lost their instruments. Grandpa got to say "told you so." You can see the photo here:

I really enjoy that band and that little sweetie is a pleasure to watch. YouTube puts those up in my home page regularly.
