From Michigan

Our public radio system carries a daily "Michigan Minute" history piece. It usually happens when I am in the shower. Today it was about the 1960 movie, "Where the Boys Are," starring Connie Francis. The movie is based on a book by an author who was teaching at Michigan State. He followed students to Ft. Lauderdale to earn about a new phenomenon, "spring break." I've never seen the movie but old guys will recognize the hit song from it. Here's the trailer, and you can hear a bit of the song:

Apparently the movie created a trend toward student spring break trips to FL. And it all started here in Michigan, on the MSU campus. Without the radio, I would not have known.
