First car show of the seaon.

Post: # 15362Post William »

Last Saturday was my little towns annual car show and the first one for the season that was close by. I took a few photos so I thought I would share.

Love the '74 88, '72 Cutlass, and '64 Sport Fury. There's an MG B series engine in that Metropolitan.
A pea-green '74 88 sedan was one of the tanks I used to drive to work.
And of course I'm partial to Cuttys.
Is that a Buick 8 in that truck???

Was that truck using the Free Press tube as an intake?

Looks like a 320 straight 8 to me. Wonder if it is running a Dynaflow..... ;)

Ok, I will try and answer all the questions.

Roger: I knew you would like both Oldsmobile's and the Plymouth. Metro's were designed here in the US but assembled in England on Austin chassis. Yes, that is a Buick straight 8.

Rex: Yes, it was a Free Press box for the air intake. The guy had filter material stuffed inside the box.

Greg:

Nope not a Dynaflow, it was a stick, not sure how many speed.

Now I know what I can do with the old Freep box that's been hiding in the cottage garage!

That was a nice show, Bill. And you take excellent pictures. It was nice to see a rat rod powered by a Buick Straight 8. That is a fairly expensive powerplant for something like that. It costs a fortune to have one rebuilt anymore. As tall as it looks in comparison to the cowl, it may be the big straight 8. There are webs in the lower block, so it could also be a 263, but it looks too tall for one of those. Compound carburetion would look nice on that rig.

It was an interesting combination of chassis parts on that Rat-Rod. The front, the engine was a Buick Fireball straight 8. He even had 4 different Buick emblems on the firewall and radiator support. The cab was from a, I forgot what year, Ford truck, and the box was from a Ford El Ranchero. He did not say what tranny, it was as stick, or rear end it had but it was a dually, and it was a wrecker.

I like the '60 "Fat Bird" you posted. Wire wheels, and a color I don't think I've seen on one before. I wonder if it had the 430 Lincoln engine in it? Paul Drake, where are you.... ;) ;)
