Bandersen scores a Magnavox!

A very early Magnavox TV with channel 1. This is an extremely rare set. Most Magnavox TV sets that still exist might be considered rare, since TV was not Magnavox's thing. This is an interesting set. I like "bandersen" videos, although he rambles occasionally. You may not be interested in the entire video, but this rare set is certainly worth seeing.

The model year of this TV is likely 1947-48 with a channel 1 tuner.

I worked on a later model (MV-33J) that uses a 17" rectangular CRT but had 10" and 12" CRT options. I can tell you the design was not changed much in 4 years so it must have been a workhorse, not a lemon.

I like Bob's documentary style, he has given some valuable tips on cleaning, stripping and finishing on videokarma, a site with more TV people who know a "few" things.

Cool. I watched the first half+. It was an age of repairable things, so 70+ years later it can be fixed.

I'm still trying to give away the 1954 Zenith console, if there are people looking for a TV restoration fix. And the Philco portable.

I was happy to see the original stand, making it clear this Magnavox set was not separated from a Windsor Imperial of the same year.

Although collecting TV sets is not really my thing, if I ran across one of these reasonably priced, I'd probably make room for it. Seems to me that not many Magnavox TV sets survived the years. I have no idea why.

Was this one of the sets that was designed to be placed in the larger consoles with the tuner and amp, like this one?

Probably something similar. The audio and speakers for the TV are part of the console audio, if it is like the later Stereo Theaters. If you look at the one bandersen is working with, the speaker cone is almost as large as the picture tube.....

The Windsor was a breakfront mono console, just $895 in 1948
If you got the optional TV "top cabinet" it looked like this.
Mine does not have the TV, just as well because its H U G E and my ceilings are 7'-6"!

"The Imperial Windsor consists of two separate units, the base unit radio/phonograph and the top unit an MV14BR bookcase television receiver. The base unit consists of a Magnavox CR-211 radio chassis (13 tubes) which tunes the AM & FM broadcast bands and short wave band tuning 5.9Mhz - 17.3Mhz, a power amplifier model AMP-111 which is capable of producing 45 watts of audio output using four 6L6 output tubes in push-pull parallel. The speakers used in this model consists of a 15" PM bass unit and a dynamic cellular horn for treble.

The television section contained in the functional bookcase unit is a stock Magnavox unit, 12 channel detent tuner, the TV audio is passed through to the power amp in the receiver section, a 12KP4 CRT is used, the 12KP4 is an aluminized screen CRT that improves the brightness.

The complete unit is just under 8 feet tall and weighs approximately 300lbs."
