Black over Red '57 Roadmaster convertible

Post: # 14132Post electra225 »

This might be a car Art restored. It is a bit of a mystery since it has three of his signature features, but also has a couple features he typically avoided. It has the rubber flap over the distributor, something 99% of the restorations of "57 Buicks lack. It has the exhaust deflectors in the rear bumper, an unobtanium item that Art made himself, and it has the Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. It lacks the traditional "Arthur-ized" sticker on the core support, has powdercoated components and radial tires. There was a powdercoating place just down the road from his shop, so it's possible the customer requested that service and Art obliged. The radial tires could have been done later, as well as an aftermarket battery. The car was done in 2016. In any case, this car is as close to perfect as humans can make it. I don't know of anyone else who does '57 Buicks to this degree other than Art. Since he is gone now, I can't prove whether he restored it or not.

Art restored a '57 Roadmaster like this one. The transmission puked fluid out the dipstick tube, onto the hot manifold and set the engine compartment on fire. It burned into the passenger compartment, under the instrument panel. We re-restored the car, and I still have the burned radio knobs we took out of it. This isn't the same car. The one that got on fire had hubcaps. And it was in 1998.
