Sessions clock

Post: # 11291Post walyfd »

Another of my hobbies is clocks. I found a Warren Telechron mantel clock with basic hour and half-hour chimes for $5 at Sally's... (SA). Cleaned up beautifully and the original lacquer looks new. Only thing it won't do is chime at 12...

Last Saturday, I went to the same SA. Not only do I pick up some really good records but now clocks.

I added this onyx number for $13. More than I wanted to spend there but I couldn't look away from that deco face. Well, the rotor is shot. I cleaned it up and it's too nice to not run. I snagged another rotor on the 'bay with a different part number so I hope it works.

Try to find any information on these... year made, price new, etc...

Have you done the rotor lube process? The old-style ones lube up very nicely. One guy online dos it using a light bulb as heater but I prefer the soldering iron route.

I like clocks too, but most of mine are windup. I do have three or four Hammond clocks.

I have 3 Telechrons, a 7F75 Nocturne, a 4H55 Statesman, a 7H141 Airlux and a Westclox Oracle. I also have 3 spring wound alarms, a'56 and '62 Travalarm and a 1949 Big Ben Loud Alarm. I also can't pass up "atomic" clocks when they turn up at thrift stores. I have 5 digitals and 2 analog face wall clocks.

Nice clockwork.

Some people bash my website, but I stand by the process. In fact, it is one of the "oldest" sites on the internet dedicated to rotor rejuvenation.

That's a good tutorial.

Thank you for posting that. The first one I did was by following very similar instructions. I had not been able to find it again. Yours gives the procedure and includes the oil dispersion steps.

Wow! I referenced your site when I restored my Warren Telechron. This sessions rotor has no guts, just that big coil. I did get this one working with a replacement rotor but I had to oil it about 10 times to quiet it down.

The bearing has a chamber that's filled with grease (probably whale blubber) and there's a tiny hole to the shaft. When the rotor heats up, the grease melts and lubes the shaft. I didn't want to take this one apart so I used the ZOOM oiler and let it seep in. So far, so good.
