What do you guys think of the lid stays that

Is there a way to measure what size to use ?

More than once have I come across a hi-fi that had a
broken or worn cabinet lid hinge that would not keep
the lid up/open.

I saw those. I'm not sure how to measure for a holding device. Probably some geometric equation of some kind. I'd probably guess, get the one I think will work, then dummy it up to get it where it needs to be.
