The boat
trying again. Here's my spring project, the same one since 1969. It's available -light imaging in dim light. Below the boat, lower right, is the mast. I have special permission the keep it next to the boat because it's spruce and requires varnish maintenance. Running around just above the MC number ...

Re: Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass
Amazing, kind people. Everybody in town loved them. When I hear this song, I think of them. As an old guy, I have come to realize that we remember kindness better than almost any other qualities. We don't much remember wealth or power or cleverness. We all remember the kind neighbors, or the strang...

Re: The price of gas went down...
My understanding is that the main driver of pump price is the cost when the tanker truck was filled. That has been yo-yoing. Your local station makes more money from sales of chips, snacks, sugary drinks, etc. than on gas.

Those insurance woes are one reason I'm still working at 78. Didn't want to get into the Medicare-supplement mess. I'm on the employer-provided insurance, a Blue Cross plan. The we can opt into a set-aside for co-pays and out of pocket that's pre-tax dollars. My problems are resolving without the ne...

I've always liked Hank Snow's version. In the NB version, the steel guitar solo is cool.

My parents had a 1960 Plymouth wagon--the first year for Unibody construction. I was a good durable car. 318 2-bbl., Torqueflite.

Time and PT are getting me back toward normal. For the last week Ive been walking standing up. I rode the bike to work the last 3 days of last week. Every day gets better. I'll have an MRI next week and maybe see what caused the problem. On the bike, it's still painful to mount in the usual fashion:...

I'm guessing that y'all are discussing late 50s Chrysler products. I've always had a weakness for those Virgil Exner "Forward Look" models. OK, we're ll entitled to our own areas of bad taste. After all, if you guys are watching L. Welk, I can like a '57 Plymouth, or this spectacular '59 m...

Re: Packard Bell model 5F busted radio cabinet....
Do you mean permeability or variable inductance tuning? Zenith used it for FM, and as the young folks my not know, most car radios, at least in the 50s and 60s used it for AM. My guess was that it was less subject to shock & vibration than varable caps.

Re: Stereo Theater speakers on the fritz.....
First of all,try an ohmmeter and compare the two, R vs L. Or on the questionable one, connect it up to a low-power device like a small radio and see how it sounds at low volumes.

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12
Red-plating is not typically the result of high plate voltage, but, rather high plate CURRENT. MOST power transformers are rated safe to 125 VAC. But generally higher voltages lead to higher currents, all things remaining equal. E=IR. Most red-plates I've seen are from leaky coupling caps causing s...

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12
For my 1936 GE console, the voltages were quite high because of modern supply voltages. As I recall, I was getting some red-plating. So I made up a bucking transformer for it. You can read a clear description of the bucking transformer circuit and advantages here: https://sound-au.com/articles/buck-...

I heard a new version of Hoagy Carmichael & Stuart Gorrell's "Georgia on My Mind" on the radio tonight. The performer's name had escaped me by the time I got home--but it was good. Ray Charles owns the song of course, and others have done good versions too. It's simply a classic song, ...

Believe it or not, I have a cactus plant in my backyard as did my parents. During the winter it looks like it is deader than dead and then as soon as the sun hits it and it warms up it comes alive. I live the flowers, but sadly they only last one day and then they are gone. The good thing, they don...

The new replacement can have a higher voltage rating but not a lower. Some contend that the disparity should not be too great. Generally, don't worry.
The thing to worry about is maintaining correct polarity.

Re: Philco 46-1226 followed me home...
OK on higher voltages. I've always wondered why people get so distressed about disintegrating rubber insulation. Jut check and make sure it's not contacting anything it shouldn't. Most of the wires are solid-wire, not stranded, so they are self-supporting. I really tight places, go ahead and replace...
