Garrard 3500 Changer in Packard Bell Console

This changer returned to owner today after some not enjoyable service. The mechanism is I'd say the same as in 2025TC, and 3000 changers. The big problem came after I heated the toothed cam wheel and removed it for cleaning. The trip pawl is supposed to rotate in its position in the cam wheel. It wa...

Re: 1957 Admiral HT2237 Capacitor

You answered my question much more simply and clearly than all searched topics online that I found never addressed my query. [ : ) There is a B- to chassis cap (C3 0.1 mF) that I will change out to a 0.01 mF X1Y2 safety cap. Is there any need to also reduce the C11 value or put an X1Y2 cap there ? T...

1957 Admiral HT2237 Capacitor

Hello all,

What function does C11 (0.047mF) serve in this phono amplifier ?

It's connected from line voltage to the heater tap of the 35Z5GT
rectifier.

(across the line cap ?)

Thanks.

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12

Ms. Newcomb is back in her cabinet. The 70+ year old speaker sounds fine. There is not as much bass as I would enjoy, but the Pfanstiehl P-228 stereo cart and this amp are a good match. I used a 22 mF cathode bypass cap for the original 25 mF value, and that may/may not have made some difference. Th...

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12

I checked the 6X4 plate V's today with the motor on, and VAC was 327 V, so no real change there. I wanted to note this amp has a fuse. Placing an in-line resistor would be arduous, due to the layout of the chassis components. Would you all say this is an acceptable condition to leave as-is ? That is...

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12

I appreciate the inputs. I have also done AC voltage measurements with meter on DC, and I remembered to check that when I took readings. All the other plate voltage readings on the 6V6 and triode plate of the 6SQ7 are very close to schematic values. My mains voltage is 123 VAC. Tomorrow I'll hook up...

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12

1. Greg, the Newcomb speaker has no EIA markings I can see. 2. I have found the 6X4 rectifier plate voltages to be high. Schematic values in the photo I posted are 270 VAC for Pins 1 and 6, and I read 328 VAC. The amplifier chassis On/Off switch will energize the amplifier with the record changer po...

Re: 1952 Newcomb RC-12

Nice job, Mr. Mogul, I really like the way Newcomb did their in cabinet schematic. Very easy to read and lots of information there. How does it sound? Bill Bill, I used another 6 x 9 speaker for the bench test, but it was not in an enclosure. The output though, was nice and clear, no hum. Vol &...

1952 Newcomb RC-12

Another of the many Hi-Fi gals almost completed. This is an uncommonly found 1952 Newcomb RC-12 with a V-M 950 record changer. Power transformer model using 6X4, 6V6, and 6SQ7 tubes. The 6SQ7 triode is the only section of that tube used. AC line fuse. Speaker: 6 x 9 inches. The cabinet covering need...

Random find on the www, that to me is a great example of our radio culture many of us grew up with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKOfUy3qKh0 I also have loved listening to vintage Dick Biondi, R.I.P. Re: General Electric RC-4851 coffee table stereo

1. Please post the vacuum tube complement for both the audio amp and radio circuit. I have 2 possible schematics, but need more info. 2. Take a good look through the "Getting Started" section for general "must do" tips on vintage restorations. 3. Can you read a circuit schematic ...

NIck,
See if Greg can move your post to create a new
separate topic for your G.E.

It will simplify the process going forward.

Chris, the cartridge in the V-M is medium output,
so Vol must be at max.

Sound is about what I expect from a small speaker,
but nice and clear.

1960 Decca DP547

If anyone runs into one of these, I'm posting how to remove the amplifier/speaker baffle for service. After removing the changer, then some obvious wood screws, I was still stumped on how to remove the amp. Solution came when I had turned the player with the front facing down. I noticed the baffle h...

Question About Cathode Bypass Cap

Hello all, Starting on this 1960 Decca DP-547 two tube unit. Capacitor C1C is 20 mF 150 VDC per the original three component capacitor can. Due to room constraints in the little chassis, I'd like to use a 22 mF 50 VDC for the bypass capacitor of the 50C5 tube. From the many other hot chassis type li...
